Disney Update

April 13th, 2008

I’d say it’s been my biggest problem all my life… it’s money. It takes a lot of money to make these dreams come true. ~Walt Disney

Yesterday I received mail from Miss Ann containing a huge check from your donations. All of you who have donated to the raffle have been incredibly kind and generous. So far you have donated almost $4,500. I’m not even sure there are words I can use to thank you.

Apparently Miss Ann and Dude have been working together on the trip to Disney. Hopefully the plans will come together this week and we will know when we are going although my illness has thrown a monkey wrench into every thing.

I’ve been looking at vacation packages all morning and it’s going to be very hard for us to do this trip for $4,500 when you include my loss of salary for one week plus incidentals. If the doctor tells us that I have to start chemotherapy right away then we need to go on this trip right away. I’ve got to get those girls on a nice trip to Disney…

Right now I have to get my federal, state and local taxes done. I may not be going anywhere if we owe money. Yes, I totally procrastinated this year.

Disney suggestion: Call the hotel directly and see if they can give you a better deal than you can find online. I hope you all can make the trip soon as it is a beautiful time to see the parks. btw, the bracelet is beautiful!

Sweetie - I thought that a lot of the trip part was taken care of? Don’t stress about that yet.

And yet Disney advertises that a family of four can do Disney for $1600?? That’s kind of a raw deal. :-(

Colin, I hope it gets organized soon too.

kris, I had no idea you could do that! I might see if that works.

ocb, I want this too. Especially before I start feeling worse than I already do.

Miss Britt, It’s all going to come down to timing. If the doctor says I have to start treatment right away then we need to go right away. With the arrangements that are in the works we are at that organizations mercy. I am not sure if it’s guaranteed that they are going to send us or when. At least that’s how I understand it but I could be wrong.

Dave2, I’m not sure how they can possibly advertise that. Maybe that’s possible if you drive there and stay in the campground. I picked the cheapest hotel and it’s over $3,000. That’s without the airline tickets…which are supposed to go up in two weeks.

    I freaking hate money.

For flights, try Allegiant Air. They fly out of Sanford and an airport an hour from Philly, and they’re really cheap (like $19-29 one way) if you order them ahead of time. That might help.

Awesome. Try JetBlue - do they leave from Philly?

Let me know when you head down. We leave the 26th and maybe I can finagle a day trip from the west coast to see you!

Avitable, I checked Allegiant Air and it would be around $950 - $1,000 for the four of us. The flight down is $79 plus tax, plus convenience fees, plus some other fees they throw in. It’s the returning flight that’s the killer. We either have to pick a different airline or extend our trip because most days in May are booked.

Still, I don’t think that $1,000 is that bad for four people to fly however in the grand scheme of what’s happening right now it’s a lot of money for our family.

Chatty, :( JetBlue doesn’t fly any where near us. I’ll let you know when we have the exact dates. I’m hoping to have this planned by the end of the week.

Hey I just checked the Disney site. Just for info I plugged in the four of you staying at Port Orleans (nice hotel, I’ve stayed there), from April 30 to May 5. That gives you an extra long weekend. Plus airfare via AirTran and the total was around $3100. Maybe that gets you closer to your goal? Again, I would call the Disney number and tell them your issue and see what they can do. Don’t give up this dream because it really is doable.

I forgot to say that in that price included a 6 day park hopper ticket including the water parks.

I played around with the paypal button for a while the other day and I could not figure out a way to give without losing blog anonymity. And now I am thinking… who the fuck cares? Seriously? So I am going to send you some dough, honey. Just don’t tell anyone my parents named me after a John Denver song. So embarrassing.

kris, That would definitely get us there with no problem. Isn’t Air Tran the airline that just went under though? I’m going to go to the Disney site and see what price I come up with from Philadelphia.

I would love to stay within the Disney Resort.

Nina, I would never give away your anonymity. I’m totally not like that. I think that’s very kind of you to think about donating to help us.

Maybe you could check with a travel agency and tell them how much you have to work with? They might be able to pull something together that fits your budget. You WILL get there, no matter what!

You definitely want to stay on Disney property. Mostly because it is easy to get to and from all parks which will allow you to enjoy the parks in the morning and evening. One Disney tip, during the afternoon, go back to your hotel to nap and have fun in the pool. You will see as much of the parks breaking your day up like that than you will staying all day and being tired and hot. For a nominal fee (it might even be included in the package price but ask to be certain), Disney will meet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel so you won’t even need a rental car. Keep us posted. I’m getting excited for you all. :-)

Hi, I sent you an email but I’m sure you are overwhelmed with emails! I plan WDW trips for families. I travel there frequently and am current on all aspects. I’d be happy to do all the legwork for you. Just email me if you’re interested. I could have information back to you in one day with no more work on your part.

Praying hard for you. I am new to your blog, less than a week on board. If like a litte adventure, travel by train. My mom and I took 4 kids and 2 adults from DC to Orlando for less than 700 round trip. It’s mostly overnight and the kids can walk around the train, play games, and even eat in the dining car. We traveled coach seating and just reclined and slept in our seat. We survived(even my 2yr old) and it turned out to be the best trip of our lives.

Wow, that’s awesome news (the amount i mean). of course, I already knew about how much from Miss Ann’s posts. :P

I’ve been postponing taxes too. we owe this year, so I have to send out the check tomorrow. eek. me and meesh aren’t exactly happy about it, but gosh, that’s what happens when we made too much cash last year i guess! :(

Blonde Blogger, I’ve contacted a travel agent through the place where I work and I’m going to re-contact her today to see what kind of deal she might have to offer. Thanks for reminding me!

kris, That would be my choice depending on how the plans go it may not be how things go. I absolutely loved staying at a Disney resort for that very reason and hoped to do the same thing but will be happy just to get the girls to Disney.

Nat, I wish it were that easy…as I’m staring at a $1,000 Real Estate tax bill that is due in two weeks. Yes, we forgot all about that. It’s just the first Real Estate tax bill. The other $3,000 is due in June and we live on the smallest piece of property in a twin!

    There is Disney right there.

EDW, I’ve sent you two emails. Maybe you want to check your Junk email or Spam folders. :)

Miss Ann, OMG, a road trip with you would have us all in stitches. I’m anxious to get plans in place I guess. I have Minnie Mouse ears to wear you know.

Stephanie, I never even thought about train. It’s a hell of a lot more reliable than plane with so many of them going bankrupt!

yoshi, I still haven’t finished our taxes yet. We didn’t make that much last year but still may owe. It totally sucks. I’m not going to stress out until I get home from work and finish them tonight.

My husband passed away on June 26th 2006 from post-transplant lymphoma. He didn’t know he had it, until one day he had severe pain in his abdomen. The surgery showed a tumor had taken over his intestines and was sneaking up to his heart. We had no time to prepare, no time for family gatherings, no time for him to say goodbye. He passed away two months after being admitted into the hospital.

I know that you’re a fighter and you plan on kicking cancers ass once again - which is why so many of us want to see you take this trip with your daughters. So please, Please don’t use the donations to pay your taxes! Your girls need this time with you.

Vikki, Do you want to see goofy pictures or Goofy pictures because I’m sure we can provide both.

annie, Because I wasted a lot of time on Sunday while I felt craptastic on the couch I priced out so many different scenarios that I’ve got this widdled down to the best price ever. I can get us there and have us stay at a nice Disney resort, including meals, and flight for $4100.

Willo, I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. This is exactly why I want to go…just in case something happens.
