What? Honest to blog? ~Leah, Juno
This is probably one of the most boring blog posts I’ve ever written but thank GOD. Thank God I can write a boring post for once. So please, please enjoy my most boring post ever.
Dude and I had some time alone this weekend which is very rare. My mom and stepfather took the girls so that we could go out, have some fun and relax with each other. Dude and I have been married for 11 1/2 years and I think I can count on two hands, perhaps some toes too, how many times we have taken time for just us.
One of the things Dude and I have always wanted to do was tour the Yuengling Brewery. Yuengling is Dude’s favorite beer and he keeps it on tap in his Biermeister at all times. We live only an hour from the original brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The only thing that has kept us from taking the trip are the girls and lots of excuses so on Friday we decided we would go this weekend.
Especially after my post on Friday.
Yesterday I took a shower and got ready to go. I looked outside and the sky looked like it was 8:00 PM but it was only 11:30 AM. I put on the Weather Channel and found out we were under a Tornado Watch until 5:00 PM. A freakin’ Tornado Watch in Pennsylvania…and we are in the mountains.
The last tour at the brewery was at 1:00 PM so we didn’t make it. That totally sucked. So, now we are planning it for June 14th because touring a brewery is a totally appropriate way to celebrate Flag Day, right?
By 2:00 PM Dude started to complain that he was hungry and that he wasn’t going to make it until dinner time. He gets super cranky if he misses a meal. Like a two year old child. Past experience told me that a snack wouldn’t do so we decided to go out for a late lunch/early dinner at Buca di Beppo. What do you call a late lunch/early dinner…lunner?
Let me tell you something about Buca di Beppo, the portions are gargantuan. A small portion is enough for one to two very healthy eaters. For an appetizer Dude and I shared some Bucacini which are risotto balls with a spice sausage and Gorgonzola filling. Delicious…and filling.
For lunner I had Penne Campofiore (picture)…pasta with zucchini, artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, escarole, garlic and Romano cheese. There was so much on my plate that I ate 1/4 of it and brought the rest home. Dude had Grilled Salmon with Pesto. He let me have a bite and it was very good!
After we stuffed ourselves silly we rolled over to Blockbuster to rent some movies. Dude and I have extremely different tastes when it comes to movies. It’s hard for us to find middle ground but after 11 1/2 years we are getting there. I love psycho-thrillers, he loves gore and horror. I love chick-flicks, he loves juvenile humor that I find down right stupid.
Yesterday he told me that I could anything I wanted as long as he could get what he wanted. That sounded fair. I picked Juno (chick-flick) and he picked The Mist (gore/horror).
When we got home I wanted to finish seeing the season finale of Lost because I fell asleep at 8:30 PM on Thursday night. That’s one of the bummers about being sick. Lately I’ve been going to bed around 8:00 PM and waking up at 7:00 AM. I’m still tired after all of that sleep. So, Dude recorded Lost for me.
As we watched it all I kept saying was, “Oh my God, WTF?” Those are my deep thoughts on the finale.
Then we watched Juno. I thought Dude was going to hate it. Surprisingly he really liked it. I absolutely love Ellen Page…she is just adorable. And I love the soundtrack. I caught Dude singing song from the movie this morning so I downloaded it from iTunes and I’m making him a CD. I just know he’s going to thank me profusely when I give to him!
After Juno I went to bed because I knew Dude wanted to watch his blood-gore-guts-and-horror flick. No way Jose. He even watched it in surround sound the sadist S.O.B. The thumps and goriest parts could be felt in my bedroom from below in the living room. When I asked Dude how The Mist was he said, “scary, very, very scary.”
We are pretty deep people when it comes to reviews, can’t you tell?
It was just so nice to have a peaceful, quiet house and time with Dude. It reminded me of those weekends together back in 1996 when it was just the two of us…before we got married. Of course we missed the girls but sometimes the break is necessary.
I hope Dude and I get plenty more weekends like that in the future…at least that’s what I’m fighting for.
So, what did you do this weekend?

Well, let’s see….Friday I took my 13 year old to see Panic At The Disco. Saturday we bought a new grill at the new Super Wal-Mart by my house, but couldn’t grill because of a sudden and unexpected thunderstorm and today I took the kids to the pool and we played and sunbathed for a couple hours. That pretty much sums it up for me.
And also? Ellen Page is da bomb. I loved Juno.

Lucy, Dude just bought a grill last weekend at Wal-Mart. And you know I was boycotting Wal-Mart for 6 years…damn economy. How can you beat a $198 monster gas grill though?
I love that you took your 13 yr old to a concert!!!
I totally want to buy Juno now too.

Immersed in 16th Century England here. Last week my daughter and I started watching the first season of The Tudors and we finished yesterday. We wanted to make sure we’d seen everything leading up to tonight’s season two finale.
And I’ve been wanting to see Juno. It sounds so good.

Hung out with the kids, cleaned. Dreampt of new lawnmowers.
I really need to get around to watching that. She was FAB in Hard Candy BTW….

How nice!
We had a very similar weekend… Littleone went on a trip to see Geek’s brother from Thursday through today, and Geek and I had a very peaceful, very relaxed, all adult weekend. It was nice to revisit being a couple, not Mom and Dad. And we didn’t do much at all — went out to eat, did some clothes shopping, had a lot of sex. Nothing too exciting (except the sex, of course). It was a nice weekend, and I’m looking forward to our trip at the end of this upcoming week, just the two of us.

Musing, Wow, 16th Century England? I’ve never heard of the Tudors. I highly recommend Juno though.
Thordora, I would like someone to come do landscaping. Is that the same as dreaming of new lawnmowers?
Again, I highly recommend Juno.
I’ve not heard of Hard Candy. I like Ellen Page so much that I may have to check that out.
Tense, I hear you on “revisiting being a couple”. Now what is Geek going to say when he hears you are talking about all of the sex you had this weekend?
That’s one of the things that sucks about being sick and being in pain…not in the mood for sex but I bet if I took enough painkillers….

14 kids at a 4yo’s bday party–yikes! That’s what I did. Your weekend sounds funner than mine! My dude and your dude would get on well—I’ll have to look up the Yuengling thing…probably not to far for us either. Maybe I should surprise him w/ it!
Boring is good. Sounds like a perfect day. Haven’t seen Juno yet, but adding it to the list!

Heather, We went to a 4 year old’s birthday party today with about 25 kids! You must live close to me if the brewery isn’t far from you.

Mapquest says an hour and 24 minutes, but with my driving…an hour!

Now, that sounds like a wonderful weekend! Sorry you missed the Yuengling tour. We too, love Yuengling. We have a brewery near us, Flying Fish. They do tours on Saturday afternoons. They are in Cherry Hill, NJ. You should check them out, too. We went BK (before kids). And, I was just saying to my almost husband of 12 years (see how much we have in common?) that we should go again, over the summer, of course, without kids. But, maybe I will look up the Yuengling tour.
I did have a wonderful weekend. My Mother’s day present, was tickets to see Spamalot in NYC. So, DH and I had an all day NYC date. Have you seen Spamalot? It was fantastic! We had lunch, snack and dinner in the city. It was really nice. DH was going to sit through Sex and the City with me, too, so he could drink a giant diet coke, and wake up for the almost 2 hour drive home (after lamenting, why didn’t I book a hotel room? I asked him that, too! Would have been even better!) The kids were swimming at the neighbors yesterday, so, of course, nothing got done in the house. And, it is so nice out now, but, there is laundry to be done, and some floors to be cleaned. Maybe I can do that now, and let the kids run around later in the sun…

Oh, we didn’t see SATC because all the shows were sold out (we were in Manhattan, and they had it on only 2 screens).

GURL!!! I threw my daughter her 6th Birthday party yesterday. We had a big ole water slide/slip n slide/trampoline/36 cans of silly string/bbq party yesterday, had about 15 kids there and parents so I had a yard FULL!
DH grilled 5 packs of hot dogs, 24 smoked sauages, 8 bratwursts, 21 hamburgers….and nothing was left….3 lonely “hannah montana” cupcakes out of 24 and 8 small ones left.

Lisa, I ordered crocs online, and checked where my order was. I know what you are thinking, why is she telling me this. Well, I will tell you why, they are currently (or at last check) in Pottstown, for sorting…I kind of thought it was funny…maybe I can tell my crocs to pick me up some Yuengling, while they are stopping by…(come to think of it, we have some in the fridge, Y- not crocs).
now, tell, which Yuengling Brew do you prefer? DH goes for the Lager, but, I also like the Black and Tan…

Christine, I’ve heard of Flying Fish although I don’t think either Dude or I have ever tried it. I haven’t seen Spamalot either. Didn’t it do a short stint in Philadelphia? I heard that it was hilarious.
I never watched SATC when it was on HBO or any of the reruns on now so I have no interest in the movie. It just never interested me. I heard that it sold out at a five screen muliplex in Manhattan too.
MrsRobbieD, Sounds like one hell of a partay!
Wait, you had Hannah Montana CUPCAKES?
Christine, How did your Crocs end up in Pottstown? Did you order them from Boscovs?
We totally drink Lager here.
Tug, Awww, three years old
How cute!!! Enjoy next weekend!!

This weekend I watched a lot of television: Two Dr. Whos, Battlestar Galactica, two How I Met Your Mom and two The L-Words.
I also rode my mike 26 miles and replaced the ceiling light in the living room. And slept a lot. We were exhausted from having relatives in town Memorial Day weekend.
I’ve visited the Busch plant in St Louis and Coors in Denver so Yuengling in PA would be a great trip.

Oh thank you for asking.
Saturday I spent most of the day scrubbing the house, then I went out to dinner at the Melting Pot with girlfriends. After dinner we had game night at the birthday girl’s house. Good fun!
Sunday I woke up and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned some more. Then I blew up 30 beach balls. Then we had a party for my 6 year old. I may or may not have had one too many beers. I love birthdays.
