While I’m on a “Blog Vacation” I’ve been busy watching Bravo, the Olympics and catching up on all of your blogs. Hey, I’ll admit it, it’s pretty boring laying in bed feeling lousy.
I’m also obsessing about my two favorite food groups, pizza and hamburgers, because I’m totally over the liquid diet but I realize that it’s a necessity if I’d like to live. However, it’s making me cranky. Ensure and Boost aren’t exciting. Please send your smoothie recipes to me to make my life exciting.
What’s life come to when I can’t wait for Dude to go to the supermarket to buy me skim milk, yogurt, bananas and peanut butter so that I can make a yummy, delicious, peanut butter - banana smoothie?
Anyway, while I’m still on this “Blog Vacation” I found an interesting quiz over at Jester’s blog and found my results pretty spot on. All I want in my life and for those around me is peace. Peace and serenity are amazing. It took me 41 years and a third round with cancer to finally find it by thank God I have.
Go take the test and tell me how close your results reflected you!
| I took the free ColorQuiz.com personality test!

Now, back to my “vacation”.

My favorite smoothie is pretty simple:
1 banana
5 - 6 large strawberries (I used frozen whole strawberries - they’re really big)
1 cup of low-fat milk
1 capful of vanilla (1 tsp?)
Splenda to taste (really depends on how sweet your fruit is - I usually add a packet)
Blend it up & enjoy! Hope you’re taking good care of yourself. Hang in there.

This one is a little different than your run of the mill smoothies..enjoy!
Cucumber Honeydew Smoothie
INGREDIENTS
* 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and chopped
* 2 cups cubed honeydew melon
* 2 cups passion fruit juice
* 8 sprigs fresh mint, or amount to taste

When my husband was basically forced to be on a liquid diet because anything he ate made him sick for hours, we found these really delicious boxed soups at Trader Joe’s. They’re really healthy and for the most part didn’t make him sick.
I found his liquid diet a perfect excuse for me to eat my weight in frozen yogurt, because he could share in part of that too (when he wasn’t reacting to the cold as a side effect of the chemo). I’m sure your girls could get behind that.
One of his favorite smoothies includes strawberry flavored yogurt, and a handful of the mixed frozen berries we’d also pick up at Trader Joe’s. Toss in some ice, a little Boost or Ensure and he’d have a filling meal that wouldn’t make him sick.
Hope you’re feeling better.

I don’t have the patience for that stupid test! Click the colors in order of how they make you feel, blah-blah, click-click-click, what-ev’s!
So it said this:
“Active, outgoing, and restless. Feels frustrated by the slowness with which events develop along the desired lines. This leads to irritability, changeability, and lack of persistence when pursuing a given objective.”
Ba-ha-ha-ha! That ain’t me at ALL, is it?

Here’s my favorite smoothie, hope it provides you with some variety!
Six large strawberries, hulled and quartered
1/2 to 1 whole banana
1/2 cup milk (or water, but I like it creamy)
1/2 cup yogurt (any flavor, or plain) - or you can skip the yogurt and use a tablespoon or two of honey
1 scoop whey protein powder (or soy, if preferred) - vanilla flavored (you can skip this, too, if you’re not into protein powder)
ice cubes according to how slushy you like it - I usually use a cup to a cup-and-a-half
I’ve found that my blender works best if I dump the liquid in first, followed by the fruit, then the protein powder. Blend on high until smooth.
Hope you’re feeling better soon!

I think that a milkshake would be much more exciting–If you made one out of say, Turkey Hill Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream, you would gain the prontien from peanut butter, calcium and lat I heard, Chocolate is good for you! Yo ucould throw in more protein powder to legitimize it…

I used to work for Jamba Juice and the standard smoothie recipe there is:
12 oz. of juice
2 scoops of frozen yogurt or sherbet
3 scoops of frozen fruit.
My favorite is the Peach Pleasure, which is:
12 oz. of peach juice (or peach nectar)
2 scoops of orange sherbet
2 scoops of frozen peaches
1 scoop of frozen banana
Another good one is the Protein Berry smoothie, which is
12 oz. soy milk
2 scoops of frozen strawberries
2 scoops of frozen bananas
protein powder.
You probably don’t have a “scoop” and I can’t remember how much exactly is in a scoop, so feel free to wing it and add as much as will blend.

blondefabulous, When I saw my results were all about finding “peace” I was like…eerie.
Tracy, That sounds really good. I could add some protein powder to it for some more nutritional boost.
ML, Ohhh, how refreshing!
Chrissi, Chocolate would be good too although I’m more of a vanilla fan.
Jamie, I have some of my mom’s homemade chicken broth which is killer. I don’t have a Trader Joe’s near me to look for the soups though
I never thought about making a smoothie with the Ensure or Boost because that alone doesn’t always fill me up.
annie, You strike me as someone who doesn’t have time for the stupid bullshit of others…so this fits.
Laura, This also sounds good!
misfithausfrau, Anything made with Turkey Hill Ice Cream is better. I’m a vanilla fan though!
Megryansmom, Yum, that sounds good.
Judi, Thank you for the link!

Mmm, smoothie. I never use recipes actually; I just throw in whatever’s available and in season. Blueberries are awesome. Plain yogurt is good, and if you have a Vita-Mix or other industrial-style blender you can throw in some ice cubes. Don’t forget whey protein or “green” powder; you can hide a LOT with fruit. Strawberries too. Yum.
Also, could you not drink un-jelled Jell-O? Not too nutritious, but damn it tastes pretty good. Or is that just my little corner of weirdness?
[Reply]
New Age Bitch, I have a Breville blender that’s pretty good and has a smoothie option on it. From what I’ve heard the Vita-Mix is like on of the best though.
I definitely have to add some protein powder to my smoothie recipes!
Oooh, I’m not sure if I could just drink unjelled Jello. That might be too much for me.
