You know it’s just like me to write a post about facing myself and talk about self-acceptance only to have it all change a week later. Well, when you look in the mirror and see the face of a puffin, it’s kind of hard to love that face.
Yes, I look like a puffin…just like that bird in the picture. My eyes are tiny and my cheeks are puffy. My body under normal cirmumstances is round but now it’s even rounder. It’s all quite frustrating.
Still, no one knows what’s causing all of this. The theory is that it’s a delayed reaction to all the steroids I took for chemo two weeks ago. To add insult to injury I’ll be taking more steroids this week for chemo on Thursday.
Will my face get so puffy it will explode?
At least the Bead Expo was fun. I met lots of interesting people because I have no problem talking to strangers. One woman asked me if I had cancer because I had a turban on. She was kind enough to give me extra beads and a discount on my purchase because her mother was battling cancer. I got some really beautiful, different and interesting beads that you just can’t get anywhere else other than a bead expo. There had to be at least 250 vendors there.
I spent the entire day reorganizing my beads and making some teal bracelets for September. September 5th is National Teal Day in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness. Mark your calendar. Guys…wear a teal shirt! Gals…wear a teal shirt and a teal bracelet. I’ll be selling bracelets all week starting tomorrow. It’s time that the color TEAL gets equal billing as some other colors, you know what I mean?

HoosierGirl, I have four that I made today. I’ll probably post those tomorrow morning. I’ll be making bracelets all week and as I make them I’ll put them up for sale. Hopefully you won’t miss out!

Oooooooh, reminds me of the movie, “The Wedding Planner” with J Lo in it. She was talking about color themes for weddings and came across with, “Oh, and then there’s teal…..the color of gangrene!” I laughed my ass off at that!
Seriously though, I hope the puffy face thing goes away!!!!!

The bead expo sounds like fun. 250 places to buy stuff you love = most excellent! Bummed that they don’t have an answer for you re: the steroids. That happened to me (though not blowfish proportions) when I took them for poison ivy—right in time for my HS graduation!

That’s awesome that the lady gave you a discount, I’m so glad you got to go & have fun there! Now my hope is that they figure out what’s causing the puffiness - yes, before you explode - LOL.
I got my bracelets today (or today I checked my mail finally & they were there) - they’re AWESOME - THANK YOU! I wear my teal one at LEAST a few times a week, so Sept. 5th definitely.

My boss’ daughter has Crohns. She’s having a really bad flair up (like, since January) and they just upped her to 40 mg of Prednisone. By the third day, her face puffed up and looks like a moon pie. I feel for you both. xoxo Me

Hope your face won’t get any puffier. I can’t even stand to think of it exploding so just for argument’s sake say that that will not happen, ok? You know how lighthearted I am about stuff and mental images like that
Nah, just kidding. I am sorry that they can’t find the cause. Hope it goes down soon.
And the lady at the Bead Expo? She rocks. I’ll be keeping a lookout for the bracelets too. I haven’t got one yet!

Ooooh ~ and teal is one of my favorite colors.
Put me in line for a bracelet, please. I will need a bigger one ~ like 8″ or so ~ because I have big wrists. (Yes, I really am big boned! lol Fat, too, but still big boned!)
Glad you were able to make the Expo, and can’t wait to see what you come up with!

HoosierGirl, You can always make a special request too. If I have the materials I don’t mind making a custom bracelet.

Blondefabulous: I’ve never seen the movie however in this case teal is the color of ovarian cancer awareness. In light of that, it’s kind of my favorite color right now.

HeatherK: OMG, not high school graduation. That must have totally sucked.

Tug: I hope they figure it out too. I’m starting to wonder if it’s sinuses. I’m glad your bracelets arrived safely and that you like them!!!! I’m also touched that you wear your teal one often.

usedtobeme: Steroids are nasty that way…I feel for her.

Ms. Changes Pants While Driving: Yes, I think it’s time to give teal it’s time in the spotlight. I checked that site and it looks like they are offering mostly T-shirts. Some pretty cool ones at that.
[Reply]
DutchBitch: The bracelets will be going up for sale all this week. I think I’ll be posting new ones everyday.
Kim, I have a couple of 8 inch bracelets already made which are perfect for larger wrists. They should go up today and the measurements will be noted on each bracelet.

i think that puffins are cute! but i understand that when you’re a human looking like other animals isn’t really all that great. hang in there; at least you don’t look like a wildebeast or something super ugly!
i will be sure to wear teal on sept. 5th … it’s one of my signature colors!
[Reply]
Yes teal unites!!! Pink is awesome, I’m not undermining breast cancer but…. Well what about all the other victims???
I want a bracelet! I know I prob won’t receive it by the 5th but I have plenty of teal colors, I love that color!
Hope you get to feeling better!!

she: Are purple and teal together the colors for sexual assault survivors? I can custom make a teal/purple bracelet for you if you would like. I’m sorry that you had to even go through anything sexual assault related.
Sister D: Aren’t puffins the cutest things ever??? I guess it could be worse. I could have a donkey head or something. Yes, teal is an awesome color on you if I must say so.
misi: Wouldn’t it be great if teal got the same billing as pink? I can certainly get a bracelet to you by the 5th. That’s 10 days away!!!
hello haha narf: Tell me about it. If I was eating Chinese food with MSG or something then I could understand but noooooooo. Love to yew tew.

Steroids suck–I’m on a course right now to try to get the back flare-up under control. All mine are doing is making me barfy and giving me a better ’stashe than a pornstar.
Have you found a way to get them to taste better on the way down? Because mine taste nasty while I’m trying to take the doses and nothing wants to take that bitter gross taste out of my mouth. Blick.

PandoraWilde: I feel nauseous all of the time too! I haven’t noticed a nasty taste when they go down though. I take so much medication that it doesn’t phase me. You might want to try some candied ginger. That takes away any nasty taste in your mouth and gets rid of aftertaste. Ginger tea with honey (or plain) will do the same thing. Or look for a hard candy called Gin-Gins. You can find them in the health food store.
