A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg even if you are half-cracked. ~Author Unknown
Oh the irony! I write about keeping my self-proclaimed commitment of blogging daily and what do I do? I fall off the commitment wagon. But in my own defense I’ve been in bed all weekend…sick.
On Friday after I wrote my post on blogging I met my friend Nancy at Austin’s for lunch.
I adore Nancy. We met way back in high school and became very good friends. I could tell her anything. We hung out together all the time our Senior year in high school either at each other’s house or at the mall.
Nancy even tried to teach me how to drive a stick in her orange VW bug. I was a disaster at driving a stick shift…a total disaster! I remember how hysterical we were at my failed attempt. To this day I still can’t drive a stick shift.
Some time after high school Nancy and I drifted apart, went our own ways and lost touch for 24 years. This year we reconnected and I couldn’t be happier to have her in my life again. She’s just one of those people you want to be around because she makes you laugh and you feel better for having her in your life.
So, I was really looking forward to having lunch with her on Friday. When I arrived at Austin’s this feeling of tiredness hit me all of a sudden. I started to feel as if I hadn’t slept in days. It was really gloomy and cloudy outside so I thought it was just the weather making me sleepy.
Nancy and I had a great lunch. First we shared the Fresh Mozzeralla and Tomato Tower which was this huge beefsteak tomato that was sliced. In between each slice there was a slice of mozzarella cheese and basil. Then there was a balsamic, garlic oil drizzled over the entire stack…or tower. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!
For my main course I had what I had the last time we went to Austin’s because it was so good…the Thai Steak Noodle Salad. It’s grilled, marinated steak on skewers served over chilled noodles, greens, peanuts, mandarin oranges, coconuts and tomatoes. It’s also very spicy but oh, so good.
I was completely stuffed but it’s so much fun to share desert with a friend…especially CHEESECAKE.
Unfortunately, by the end of lunch the tiredness I was feeling was 10 times worse than it was when I arrived at the restaurant. I had that kind of feeling that told me if I didn’t get home A.S.A.P. then I was going to be in trouble. I felt so bad for cutting our lunch date short but thank goodness I listened to what my body was telling me.
When I got home I immediately put on my pajamas and crawled into bed. I slept for three hours and when I woke up I felt like a tractor trailer hit me. Then I got sick to my stomach. It was just a preview of how I was going to spend the weekend.
Now it’s Sunday and I’m still in my pajamas but I think the stomach bug is finally out of my system. At least I can finally hold my head up without if feeling like a 50 pound bowling bowl on my shoulders. All I need to do is call Nancy and apologize for cutting our lunch so short because I could have sat and talked to her forever!
And Nancy if you are reading…I just want to thank you for coming back into my life. I truly appreciate your friendship and love spending time with you!
So, what did you do this weekend? I hope you didn’t spend it in bed like I did!

It sounds like a great time, I’m sure your friend understood why you had to cut it short.
That sounds like it was fun. Well except for the aftermath.
You’re making me hungry and not so hungry at the same time! So glad you all have found each other again.
that salad stack is my favorite salad ever. yum!
so sorry to hear that you got so wiped out. i spent the weekend on the couch, trying not to get sick. for the most part i believe i was successful. although in your honor i think i will get off my ass and go out to eat.
love and health to you,
becky
That sounds fabulous. It’s times like these I wish tomatoes weren’t as squishy.
Yay for good friends and non-yay for stomach bugs!
This weekend I cleaned out my closets, re-organized my kitchen and did at least 10 loads of laundry. I know, I’m way too exciting, right?
Clobbered by chemo- I think I’m starting to come out of it…
BFF - that’s so true isn’t it!
I hope you’re feeling better and I’m glad that you were able to re-connect with your friend. I just re-connected with a friend after a 20-year absence and it feels great.
This weekend I spent a lot of time with my horse, Red. Saturday was really good as he decided to accept my challenge to go over a pretty scary obsticle (we’re training for a trail show in November). Kudos Red, good job. So today after I was finished riding I decided to give him a really nice shower and massage his muscles. The weather was beautiful and I knew he would just love it. Within seconds of beginning this shower for my beautiful equine I sprayed water in his ear! Of course this immediately spoiled his wonderful shower and the balance of the water event was spent with me apologizing and him scowling at me. He stood still like a good man but was not happy with me at all.
I thought that would be a nice story for you to read while you aren’t feeling well. Maybe even give you a little smile. Thanks for all of your writing and your honesty. You rock.
Amanda: I’m sure she understood too.
Avitable: It’s always fun when I’m with Nancy!
HeatherK: Austin’s has great food!
hello haha narf: Sorry to hear you were under the weather.
Captain Steve: Not a fan of the tomato?
Hilly: I need help getting organized!!!
Annabelle: Sorry to hear that chemo had you down.
becky: Very much so!
TAWYNA: That sounds like a wonderful day with your horse…thanks for sharing it.
Lisa,
I had a great time seeing you too! And no need to apologize for cutting things short. I could tell you were getting tired and needed to go. Any time I spend with you is great…short or long. I’m just so sorry you got sick when you woke up!! I guess we overdid it with the cheesecake. But it certainly was good!
I hope you are continuing to get some much needed rest. Other than being tired, you looked fabulous on Friday. Thanks for meeting me!
I’m so glad you got to spend some time with your friend. I always look forward to those times! We had a very busy, productive weekend, which is rare around here. My hubby and I did a lot of shopping, getting things we’ve been putting off forever. After our shopping spree, we enjoyed a quiet dinner for two at the Outback. Life was sweet for a bit!
I actually did spend the whole weekend in bed feeling sick. Sucks, huh?
Sounds like a Caprese! Mmmm, fresh basil!
The good thing about old friends is that regardless of how much time has passed things just seem to fall in place. In March I got together with an old roommate I hadn’t seen since ‘88. We pulled out the old pictures and had a great evening.
Nancy: You are the best! Thanks for understanding! I email you.
That cheesecake was excellent though.
Maggie: Shopping is always fun! So is spending time with your significant other.
Crazy Lady: I hope you are feeling better.
Catherine: It was a take on the Caprese for sure!
delmer: That’s the thing about true friends. Getting the pictures out is always fun!
I missed the “tell me something” post so I’ll add that snippet here. I’m thankful that it is finally starting to cool off here in the scorching desert. It’s 81 today. In Utah, I’d be complaining it was hot. Here, I’m all about “let me grab a sweater.”
As for your business card, is there any freelance work you can do from home? If so, I’d say go to the office supply place, get a pile of cards with your name and contact info as a freelancer. Then, list on the back what you freelance at. You can pick up cards to print yourself or you can usually get 50 to 100 for cheap. Good luck either way!
